Dickey Scott - Materials Engineer

Richard (Dickey) Scott earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Material Science and Engineering from Purdue University in May 2004. Mr. Scott has received further training through several short courses including cathodic protection and rectifier troubleshooting. In the spring of 2006, Mr. Scott successfully completed his NACE Corrosion Technician certification. He is currently pursuing certification towards NACE Cathodic Protection Technician (CP2).
As a Matco employee, Mr. Scott has contributed to a wide range of projects including corrosion analysis, paint and metallic coating failures, mechanical failure of materials, as well as improper material selection/use. Mr. Scott is very skilled in metallographic techniques including the utilization of stereo and light microscopy, chemical and electrolytic etchants for enhanced microstructural evaluations, hardness testing, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) equipped with an energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), elementary x-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, alloy identification using a portable x-ray fluourescense (XRF) analyzer, and specialized electrochemical techniques. He also has working knowledge of the equipment including troubleshooting, calibration, and preventative maintenance work. Mr. Scott assists in networking and computer troubleshooting, website design/management, phone system programming, and other similar adminstrative duties.
Mr. Scott’s onsite investigation experience includes corrosion of steel mill products, a collapsed bridge, the buried portions of high-tension power transmission line towers, and fire hydrant corrosion. He has also completed multiple installations and troubleshooting analysis of galvanic and impressed current cathodic protection systems on underground pipelines and structures. Mr. Scott is adept with using destructive and non-destructive field testing equipment, and video and photographic documentation while onsite.
