Each year a member of the MATCO staff is selected as the recipient of the Walter Gretz Award in recognition of their outstanding acheivements and contributions to MATCO during the year. This year we are very pleased to announce that Mr. Marty Latona, a senior materials engineer at MATCO, was selected for this prestigious award.
At MATCO, Marty specializes in corrosion studies and failure analysis of various materials including stainless and non-oriented electrical steels, cast irons, carbon steels, superalloys, and powder metallurgy (PM) products. In addition, he oversees MATCO's exposure testing services including salt spray, and cyclic / thermal exposure testing.

Marty obtained a BS and MS in Metallurgy & Materials Science from Case Western Reserve University, and an MS in Civil & Environmental Engineering from the University of Pittsburgh. On behalf of all MATCOites, official and non-official, we commend and congratulate you on your efforts and success!
The Walter Gretz Award was instituted in 1996 at the annual Christmas party. At the event, Mr. Walter Gretz was given and award by Dr. Zee to recognize his efforts and superior job performance in his many job functions at MATCO including Vice President, Professional Engineer, Comptroller, report expeditor, proposal writer and accounting clerk. At the Christmas party the following year an outstanding employee, Mr. Brian Lind, was distinguished by receiving the "Walter Gretz Award". Brian Lind's job description included metallurgical technician, web site developer, proposal writer, accounting clerk, reception clerk, photographer and maintenace man! In the following years recipients of the Walter Gretz Award have included Ed Larkin, Debra Riley, George Bayer, Geoff Rhodes, Dr. Donald L. Gibbon, Kevin Groll and Carolyn Tome.
