Dr. Zee has been invited by Electric Power and Research Institute (EPRI) to be the Principal Investigator for an in-depth study of weathering steel. Mr. Neal Murray, Project Lead/Manager for EPRI, is heading up this very important program that will seek to identify solutions to issues regarding weathering steel and its accelerated degradation rate due to either construction specifications or environmental factors. The objective of the study will be to establish, from a mechanistic point of view, critical performance parameters for weathering steel structures under various environmental conditions. The two year program will also address maintenance issues and assess current engineering standards for utility structures including poles, lattice and various transmission and distribution structures.
