IEEE/NACE Presentation: Weathering Steel vs. Galvanized Steel for Transmission Line Structures

Weathering steel versus galvanized steel for transmission structures was the topic of a presentation given by Dr. Zee at the IEEE PES General Meeting for the NACE TEG 368x / IEEE WG12 Joint Corrosion Committee held on July 24th, 2011. Included in the presenation was a side by side comparison of weathering steel and galvanized steel transmission structures that highlighted the attributes, considerations, life cycle costs, and the estimated service life of each in various atmospherice and soil environmental service conditions. The presentation was well attended and enjoyed by all!
Dr. Zee wishes to thank Neal Murray, Chair of the NACE TEG 368x / IEEE WG12 Joint Corrosion Committee, for the invitation as well as those who attended the presentation. He looks forward to providing recommedations for weathering steel or galvanized steel in the construction of future transmission structures in their specific enviroments.
