TOPIC: INFRASTRUCTURE DEGREDATION, KNOWLEDGE BASED INSPECTION
SPEAKER: Dr. M ZAMANZADEH (Dr. Zee)
ABSTRACT: Failure analysis, and the principal mechanisms by which materials fail in service, will be examined in this introductory survey. Several important factors often associated with component failures are deficiencies in design, fabrication, operating conditions, or unsuitable materials selection. These factors are of primary consideration when a failure occurs. If identified early on, potential failures or accidents can often be prevented, and as a result costly legal expenses may be avoided. Case histories in the Utility, construction and chemical industries will be explored. He will present a typical failure analysis investigation in a step by step approach.
About the Speaker:
Dr. Mehrooz Zamanzadeh, Fellow of NACE, Fellow of ASM
Dr. Zamanzadeh (Dr. Zee) is a corrosion specialist with over 20 years of practical experience in the fields of failure analysis and materials characterization. He has worked with many different materials groups to determine the root cause of failure in materials related industries, such as the chemical, oil and gas, construction, manufacturing and commercial aircraft industries. He holds four certifications from NACE International that includes Materials Selection and Design Specialist, Corrosion Specialist, and Coating Specialist. He is the author of over 60 technical papers and he currently holds 22 patents in materials, some of which are actually being produced by major manufacturers.
Dr. Zamanzadeh functions as the primary consultant and principal investigator at Matco Services, Incorporated on all fracture, corrosion, and materials failure analysis related projects. He has performed numerous materials damage investigations, including those involving all forms of transportation (including rail, automotive and aerospace), chemical, construction and power industries. He has also performed investigation on aging aircraft components, accident and explosion cases involving materials failures, human implants, electronic circuitry devices, automobile and fire engine components, industrial, manufacturing, process and construction failures.
