Humidity chamber testing is widely used, and it emphasizes the sensitivity of the material or coating tested to water exposure. In a closed humidity chamber, the humidity is raised to a value chosen as appropriate to the material under test. The temperature is generally cycled, so that the specimen is exposed to alternating humid air and condensation.

The 100% relative humidity test (ASTM D 2247): This is a condensing humidity test with 100% relatively humidity. The temperature of the test chamber is maintained at 38º C (100º F).

In addition to pure water, variations of this test can also employ water with 5% sodium chloride, acetic acid to reduce the pH to a range of 3.1 to 3.3, as well as copper (II) chloride dihydrate. These methods are described in ASTM G 85.
